If you would like to find out more information on how to correctly define threaded holes on your parts check out our threaded hole resource.

Advantages of Coarse Threads

✅ Are less prone to stripping and cross threading

✅ Less susceptible to being damaged and can still work with 'nicks' in the thread

✅ Faster to install than fine-pitch threads

Disadvantages of Coarse Threads

❌ Not as strong as a corresponding fine-pitch thread

❌ More prone to loosening under vibration

❌ Not suitable for threading into thin-walled parts

d=D: Major Diameter
p: Pitch
r: Root Radius
d2=D2: Pitch Diameter

d3: Minor Diameter Male Thread
D1: Minor Diameter Female Thread
h3: Thread Height Male
H1: Thread Height Female
