Custom Aluminium Extrusion

What are Custom Aluminium Extrusions?

Aluminium forming through extrusion is a key manufacturing process where aluminium is forced at high pressure through a die that has been designed to create a desired cross-section.

There are two major advantages to producing extruded aluminium parts; the ability to create complex cross-sections and the ability to create parts that are metres in length economically.

Get It Made has been producing custom aluminium extrusions for many years, delivering high precision, complex profiles to clients from a vast range of industries. Normal tolerances to EN755-9 for various aluminium products are possible and a number of finishes including anodising are available.

Specialised in creating aluminium profiles, we offer a wide variety of secondary processes including CNC Machining, Get It Made is your partner for a complete manufacturing solution.

Custom Aluminium Extrusion FAQ's

How do I get a quote?

The quickest way is to fill out our online quote form. Alternatively, if you would like to discuss your project before submitting a quote, feel free to email our engineers at team@get-it-made.co.uk.

How long does it take to get a quote?

For most projects we aim to get a quote back to you within 24h. However, if you submit a quote in the morning we can sometimes provide a quote the same day. Injection moulding is the exemption to this as and will take more than 24h to quote.

Is Get It Made an ISO 9001 Accredited?

Yes, Get It Made is proud to be ISO 9001 accredited. Not too sure what ISO 9001 is? Have a read of our ISO 9001 in manufacturing article.

Can you provide independent material testing?

Yes, we can send your material to a certified material testing centre to run calibrated tests. Be sure to discuss this with your Get It Made project manager at the start of your project. This often adds a week to the lead time.

Can you provide material certificates?

Yes, we can get material certificates from the material vendor, but these will sometimes be in Mandarin, the important information like grade, material size, date, chemical composition etc will be present.

There is no additional cost for to provide this.

How much thickness does anodising add?

Type II is the standard variation of anodising and clear coatings typically have a thickness of 5-15 μm and coloured/dyed coatings 10-25 μm.

Type III anodising also known as 'hard anodising’ can have a thickness of 20-80 μm.

A good design guideline to follow is that 50% of the anodic coating is below the original surface and 50% is above. Therefore, a 12 μm coating would increase the part thickness by 6 μm.

Why does my quote include EDM when I didn’t request it?

Our engineers will often use EDM when machining processes such as CNC milling and CNC turning cannot produce the desired cut. EDM is great for cutting sharp internal corners or a particularly deep cavity.
