What is Injection Moulding?

Injection moulding is a manufacturing process where molten plastic is injected into a metal mould. The plastic moulded parts subsequently cool and are ejected from the mould cavity using pins. Features of the injection plastic parts, such as undercuts, can also be created through the use of sliding cores.

Plastic Injection moulding is predominantly suitable for manufacturing a high volume of plastic parts. Get It Made has no minimum order quantity, and we recommend that plastic injection moulding is normally a viable option for quantities over 1000 parts. We can offer a plastic injection moulding service for lower quantities, using CNC Machining and Silicon Moulding.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a quote?

The quickest way is to fill out our online quote form. Alternatively, if you would like to discuss your project before submitting a quote, feel free to email our engineers at team@get-it-made.co.uk.

How long does it take to get a quote?

For most projects we aim to get a quote back to you within 24h. However, if you submit a quote in the morning we can sometimes provide a quote the same day. Injection moulding is the exemption to this as and will take more than 24h to quote.

What materials can you provide?

Get It Made offers a wide variety of materials, although we mainly work with metals and plastics. Please see the list for a sample of the materials we work with. For CNC machining please see our material list for CNC machining.

If you can’t see the material you are looking for, please get in touch with Get It Made, and we will do our best to source it for you.

What is the minimum quantity for injection moulding?

As a general rule of thumb, over 500x units can be considered the minimum order quantity for injection moulding.

However, when injection moulding becomes the most cost effective solution depends on the complexity of the design.

For smaller volume projects consider CNC machining or Vacuum casting
