Metal Injection Moulding

What is Metal Injection Moulding?

Metal Injection Moulding (sometimes referred to as MIM) is a casting process whereby a fine metal powder is mixed with a plastic binder and injected into a mould of the desired shape. This creates what is known as a ‘green part’. The binder is then removed to form a ‘brown part’ which is subsequently sintered to produce the final metal part.

Metal Injection Moulding allows for complex parts to be manufactured. The metal injection moulding process is best suited for smaller, high volume parts, in which the costs and capabilities of other manufacturing processes would be prohibitive.

Get It Made has developed excellent contacts and knowledge in the expanding Metal Injection Moulding industry. Get in touch today to discuss your requirements and start your project. We are a reliable manufacturer of metal injection moulded parts in the UK and will work with you to provide clarity, quality and consistency throughout the project.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a quote?

The quickest way is to fill out our online quote form. Alternatively, if you would like to discuss your project before submitting a quote, feel free to email our engineers at team@get-it-made.co.uk.

How long does it take to get a quote?

For most projects we aim to get a quote back to you within 24h. However, if you submit a quote in the morning we can sometimes provide a quote the same day. Injection moulding is the exemption to this as and will take more than 24h to quote.

Can I track my deliveries?

Yes! Once your project has finished manufacturing we will send you live tracking details along with a google drive link containing your part photos.

What file formats do you accept?

We accept 3D CAD files in STEP, IGS or Parasolid format. We can only accept STL files for 3D printing projects. STEP is always preferred, even for 3D Printing.

If you don’t have a 3D CAD file yet, we recommend designing in OnShape as it is free and sometimes easy to use. The other option is to find a freelance design engineer to help produce the CAD file for you. We can recommend someone if you require help.
